We are seeking a Policy Planner who can contribute to the Council’s challenging and varied resource management policy and plan development programme.

About the opportunity:

Team Vision: Delivery of high quality plans and policies, which enhance our environment, while providing for the social, economic and cultural wellbeing of the community, now and into the future.

Based in Napier and reporting to the Manager Policy and Planning, you will be part of a growing team of professional policy planners.  The Policy Planner will be able to lead or manage smaller projects and will contribute to larger projects through support and assistance to other members of the team.  The Statutory Advocacy dimensions of the role will involve the co-ordination of work outputs required from a range of disciplines across the organisation as well as ensuring that those outputs are fit for purpose for policy implementation.  You will participate in decision-making processes with a focus on regional planning, as well as providing sound advice to Managers, Councillors, tāngata whenua and community stakeholders. 

The salary range for this role is $75,362 - $78,438 depending on qualifications and experience.

About you:

The right candidate will have:

  • A tertiary qualification in resource management planning, public policy or a related field.
  • Some experience in policy development and/or local government experience would be an advantage.
  • An understanding of the Resource Management Act particularly in relation to planning processes.
  • Excellent communication and relationship skills
  • Strong research skills
  • Desire and passion for innovation and change
  • Enthusiasm and integrity
  • High level of Microsoft office and computer skills.
  • A clean full driver’s licence. 
  • Have the legal right to work in New Zealand.
