Hawke's Bay Regional Council (HBRC) is the regional authority for the Hawke's Bay region in New Zealand with key roles in environmental management and education; flood control, drainage, pollution, waste, land, water and coastal management. Supporting approximately 160,000 residents, Council's vision is to enable a healthy environment, a vibrant community and a prosperous economy.  

About the role:

IT Services is responsible for the delivery and management of technology and infrastructure that supports the business and the sector. This includes infrastructure, desktop computing, technical software and applications that the business and sector require to effectively perform.

The Applications Operations and Support team is responsible for the delivery and support of the corporate IT environment. The team has two areas; the system administrators support the server-based applications, the desktop specialists provide the management and delivery of the desktop environment.

Role responsibilities:

  • Providing full management, deployment and delivery of the Council’s desktop and      application environment.
  • Providing proactive operational support as well as reactive incident management (to      expected standards including timeframe), problem management,
  • Developing and maintaining a wide range of documentation relating to the systems      supported by the team.
  • Ensuring that all standards, guidelines and policies are followed.
  • Service Delivery of the:
    • Desktop environment
    • Application environment
    • Centralised management
    • Standard Operating Environment (SOE)
    • Operational Management

About you:

Essential Experience:

  • Experience in the development and management of a SOE (standard operating environment)
  • A high level of applied specialist knowledge and experience relevant to desktop computing e.g operating systems, Microsoft Office suite, IT security, Web technologies, Database technologies
  • Experience working with distributed applications and desktops
  • Experience with application packaging using software packaging tools
  • Experience in the use of Windows Intune
  • Proven organisational skills along with the ability to establish priorities and meet deadlines whilst preserving the highest levels of accuracy and confidentiality
  • Good interpersonal, oral and written communication skills and the ability to relate to a wide range of people at all levels
  • Excellent analytical skills and information seeking abilities
  • A demonstrated ability to quickly pick up new systems and software

Desirable Experience:

  • Experience with virtualised software and desktop builds
  • Minimum of 2 years relevant work experience
  • Experience with Microsoft scripting
  • Experience in group policy management
  • Experience with Active Directory design for computers and users
  • Experience with Windows Intune
  • Experience with Windows operating systems
  • Formal study/Qualification in a related field
  • Communicates well with non-technical staff
  • Experience working with vendors to resolve technical problems with equipment and software
  • Experience in developing long-term strategies for desktop image management
