Hawke’s Bay open spaces back on track

Beginning on Thursday (14 May) under Alert Level 2, Hawke’s Bay Regional Council’s parks, river access points, and all areas of Hawke’s Bay Trails will re-open.

The team have been really pleased with how the community got on board and looked after each other says Regional Council Team Leader Open Spaces Russell Engelke.

“We’re really happy with how the community was staying at home, sticking to the rules and looking out for each other during the lockdown. Some people did break the rules, but we appreciated that most of the community were patient, supportive, and understanding,” says Russell.

"We’re excited to start reopening all our parks, trails, and river access areas for people to enjoy. It’s been a long time for people stuck at home so I’m sure our open spaces will be really busy for a while.”

Due to the spread out position of the open spaces, it may take a few days to reopen all of the areas, but these will be opened as soon as possible from the start of Alert Level 2 on Thursday.

“We haven’t been able to do our normal maintenance through the lockdown, so you’ll see us out and about fixing and tidying things up that have happened during the lockdown.

“For people heading out to enjoy our awesome spaces please remember to avoid touching surfaces, keep a 2metre distance, and wash your hands,” he adds.

Enjoy exploring our open spaces! Head to our parks page and hbtrails.nz for inspiration.
