Hawke's Bay Regional Council (HBRC) is the regional authority for the Hawke's Bay region in New Zealand with key roles in environmental management and education; flood control, drainage, pollution, waste, land, water and coastal management. Supporting approximately 160,000 residents, Council's vision is to enable a healthy environment, a vibrant community and a prosperous economy.  

About the Opportunity:

Hawke’s Bay Regional Council has a new, unique and varied role within the Catchment Management Team based in the Napier office.  The role of Workshops and Works Co-ordinator - Hill Country Erosion is a fixed term position which runs through to 30 June 2023.  It has been established with a focus of developing a programme of capability workshops and the ongoing co-ordination and delivery of this programme.  These workshops will be for Council Catchment Advisors, rural professionals, landowners and community groups.  The aim is to improve capability in our region to support and undertake sustainable land management practices and initiatives to reduce sediment entering our waterways from our vulnerable hill country.  This role will also have an important part to play in supporting other essential Catchment Management programmes; the HBRC Pole Nursery and the Riparian Plant Programme.

About you:

You will be an excellent communicator, a creative problem solver who thrives on change, and is an excellent multi-tasker while having a strong attention to detail.  In addition to that you will ideally have a good understanding of environmental challenges in the rural landscape.

You will also have:

  • Experience in running events and, or workshops, preferably in the rural environment
  • Excellent time management, organisation, prioritisation and proactive communication skills
  • Technology savvy with the ability to trouble shoot problems
  • The ability to work autonomously
  • A relevant tertiary qualification – desirable but not essential
  • A clean full driver’s licence
