Environment Committee gains new Chair


First-term Regional Councillor Hinewai Ormsby has been appointed as the new Chair to lead the Regional Council’s Environment and Integrated Catchments Committee.

In a swap of leadership roles, the Deputy-Chair position for this committee will now be held by Cr Rick Barker.

Regional Council Chair Rex Graham explained key role of this committee in managing the Regional Council’s core environmental activities the endorsed the change of roles.

“I’d like to thank Cr Rick Barker for his leadership and look forward to the good governance our of Environment and Integrated Catchments Committee continuing,” says Mr Graham.

Councillor Ormsby’s experience includes being a business owner, a native tree nursery grower, a trustee on three boards, community project manager, a mother of two, and having been a science teacher.

The Environment and Integrated Catchments Committee considers aspects of the Regional Council’s operational environmental functions including resource management, flood protection and drainage asset management, regulatory responsibilities, environmental performance trends and State of the Environment environmental monitoring, reviewing responses to emerging and significant environmental issues, and climate change policy.
