This document contains discussion of a study which was initiated in response to concerns of intensive land uses occurring within one of the subcatchments of the Mohaka River Catchment. While previous reports (Stansfield 2003 and 2006) had indicated that water quality was deteriorating in some tributaries of the Mohaka River, changes to the benthic ecology of these systems was not evident.

This report provides a review of one dimensional (1 d) instream habitat modelling carried out
by Hawke’s Bay Regional Council (HBRC) on the lower Tukituki River, and its application to
minimum flow setting. The review was commissioned by HBRC under Envirolink grant 643-
HBRC80, to address concerns that they had regarding the defensibility of the way the method
had been applied in the past.
