At Hawke’s Bay Regional Council (“HBRC”) our purpose is to work with our community to protect and manage the region’s precious taonga of rivers, lakes, soils, air, coast and biodiversity for health, wellbeing and connectivity. Our organisation is diverse and our work is varied. Our structure comprises of six key business units; Corporate Services, Integrated Catchment Management, Asset Management, Māori Partnerships, Policy & Regulation, and the Executive Advisory Group which also consists of the Civil Defence and Emergency Management.

 

About the Opportunity:

We are navigating through a period of change and growth and are looking for a passionate and talented Revenue Accountant to join our finance team in this key role. The Finance Team is responsible for the delivery of all facets of the HBRC finance functions and delivering strategic advice to the wider Council and senior management.

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Revenue Accountant will be responsible for – 

  • Rating and funding policy support, including advising on best practice principles and ensuring standards are maintained as HBRC’s subject matter expert
  • Management of Napier leasehold land portfolio
  • Managing HBRC’s various insurance policies including renewals and claims
  • Supporting HBRC’s treasury activities
  • Working closely with other members of the finance team to assist and support when the need arises

 

About you:

In addition to being a team player and demonstrating a self-motivated can-do attitude, ideally you will also have: 

  • Relevant Bachelor’s degree or equivalent tertiary qualification
  • A minimum of 5+ years proven Local Government/Policy and accounting experience, including knowledge of Local Government Act 2002 and Local Government (Rating) Act 2002, or demonstrated ability to interpret and work within a legislative framework
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, including intermediate to advanced MS Excel skills
  • Experience in working with financial reporting systems and requirements 
  • Strong knowledge of or ability to interpret and work within legislative parameters and experience in the development of policy preparation
  • Collaborative work style and willingness to help others in the team regardless how simple or complex the task may be
