Pay your rates by direct debit

You can apply here to pay your Hawke's Bay Regional Council rates by Direct Debit. This is the easiest way to pay, as we will adjust your payment amounts each year for you.

We can arrange a direct debit option to spread your rates payments, with a monthly plan. You can use the online form below for up to 3 properties. If you have more than 3 properties, simply complete the form again.

If you are setting up a new direct debit to pay your rates, you can choose from three options.

  • One annual payment on the due date of 20 September.

Or monthly payments - on the 20th of each month

  • Pay your current rates for 2021-22 in full by the due date of 20 September 2021, and we will then set up a 12 month payment arrangement to clear your estimated 2022-23 rates by 20 September 2022.
  • Include this year’s rates balance into your direct debit payments. This means that you will pay a higher amount each month to clear the current 2021-22 rates, plus estimated 2022-23 rates, by 20 September 2022. Then we will recalculate your payments for the following year.

If you are currently experiencing financial hardship, our Rates team are happy to set up a payment arrangement. Please telephone +64 6 835 9200 for a confidential discussion.

Find our online direct debit form further down this page.

If you prefer you can complete the direct debit form by hand rather than online. You'll need to complete a separate form for each property.

Things to know:

  • Monthly payment amounts in the calculator do not reflect any credit or debit balances carried forward from previous rating year(s). These will alter the monthly repayment amount.
  • Monthly deductions will be made on the 20th of each month, or the following working day if the 20th falls on a weekend or public holiday.
  • Clean Heat or Sustainable Homes - this direct debit calculator does not include or replace any direct debits for financial assistance.
  • An option for a single direct debit payment on the due date is also available. These will occur on 20 September each year, which is the new due date for paying your rates.

  • This calculator should not be used to set up your own payment plan by internet banking or automatic payment through your bank, as any private payment arrangements must clear the balance by 20 September each year, to avoid a penalty on the outstanding balance.
With a Direct Debit lodged through  the regional council, you will receive non-penalty status, provided all payments are honoured on the 20th of each month
  • This amount has been calculated to clear rates by 20 September 2021. If you start payments partway through the year, your deductions will initially be higher in order to clear rates by the due date. From 20 October 2021 payments will be recalculated across a full 12 month period and the new payment amount will be notified on your invoice.
