Sustainable Homes

Following public consultation for our Three-Year Plan, we have closed the Sustainable Homes programme for new applications effective from 30th June 2024.

On this page you can find alternative ways to fund your heating, insulation, and energy saving investments.

After adopting the Three-Year Plan on the 10 July 2024, we have now closed the Sustainable Homes programme to new applications for grants and loans.

Ratepayers who have taken up a loan will continue to repay their loans through their voluntary targeted rate.

Here are a few ways to fund your heating, insulation and energy saving investments moving forward.

  • Bank funding - You may be able to get a loan from your bank or retailer. Many banks already waive the administration and loan set-up fees for insulation and home energy solutions, which could make it an affordable option. Some also offer interest-free options for energy efficiency products. Some banks allow you to add the cost of home heating appliances to your mortgage without additional fees, and some retailers offer interest-free loans for a certain period. We encourage you to investigate these options.

  • Supplier schemes – A few suppliers do have their own finance scheme for home energy – most of them are interest free arrangements.

  • EECA Warmer Kiwi Homes funding - Warmer Kiwi Homes provides grants for installing insulation and heating through the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA). See the EECA website to learn more and check to see if you are eligible.
