At Hawke’s Bay Regional Council our purpose is to work with our community to protect and manage the region’s precious taonga of rivers, lakes, soils, air, coast and biodiversity for health, wellbeing, and connectivity. Our structure comprises of six key business units; Corporate Services, Integrated Catchment Management, Asset Management, Māori Partnerships, Policy & Regulation, and the Executive Advisory Group which also consists of the Civil Defence and Emergency Management.

 

About the Opportunity:

We are looking for a customer focused Rates Officer to join our Finance team on a 12-month fixed term basis. The Finance team is responsible for the management and maintenance of HBRC finances. As a Rates officer you will assist in the delivery of the HBRC Rates programme, ensuring that the rates database is accurately maintained, and rates are applied and invoiced in a timely manner in accordance with legislation and HBRC policy. 

This is an excellent opportunity for the right candidate to join our well-established team and participate in the delivery of rates related customer service, supporting queries, processing payments, reconciliations, and refunds for both internal stakeholders and our wider community of ratepayers.

About you:

To be successful in this role you will be someone who naturally goes above and beyond for your customer, actively using your communication, listening and problem-solving skills to ensure positive outcomes for all involved. Your attention to detail will be second to none and will mean you bring a high level of accuracy to all aspects of your work. You will enjoy being part of a team environment, working collaboratively with others and offering support when you can see someone needs a helping hand. 

Ideally you will also show:

  • Proven experience in a similar role or a background in transactional processing and reconciliation.
  • Proven experience working with large data sets.
  • Excellent computer skills across a range of software including Excel, Word, Outlook.  
  • Experience with the Magiq rating platform and MS Dynamics NAV financial package would be advantageous, however, full training will be provided. 
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Resilience, adaptability, and flexibility to keep up with the ever-changing nature of HBRC. 
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to plan and manage workloads well.
  • Strong listening skills and an ability to relate to a wide range of people.
  • You are a highly motivated self-starter with a positive, can-do attitude.
  • You can cope with stressful situations in a calm and positive manner

 

The salary range for this role is between $51,930 and $57,700 and will depend on the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.
