Emergency Management Advisor - Wairoa

About the opportunity:

We are looking for a positive-minded individual with a background in emergency management, community engagement, or a related field to join our small but high-profile team of emergency management staff.

This Emergency Management Advisor will be based in Wairoa and will support the implementation of operational readiness projects alongside the Wairoa District Council, building capacity at a local level for response and recovery in an emergency event.  You will be well placed to guide Wairoa District Council in the establishment of an effective Emergency Operations Centre and support them to fulfil their statutory requirements under the Civil Defence Emergency Management Act 2002.

The role will also support community resilience planning, engaging with the local community and delivering public education, to increase community readiness for emergencies. There is a strong requirement to be able to build effective relationships with a wide range of local community leaders, groups and networks. 

This is a full-time position with Council, however we are open to both flexible working arrangements and there is potential for this to be a part time role for the right candidate.       

About you:

To be successful in this role you will have:

• A recognised tertiary qualification or certificate/diploma (Level 5 or above), or significant experience in a discipline relevant to emergency management or community engagement.
• 2-3 years experience in emergency management or community engagement work.
• A positive, can-do attitude, with the flexibility to adjust to the wide and varied demands of a fast-paced work environment.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication and facilitation skills, with the ability to tailor your style to a particular audience.

The salary range for this role is between $77,853 to $86,600 dependant on your level of qualification and experience.
