Water storage provides a ready supply of water for your garden, particularly in summer when water restriction come into play. These may reduce the demand on the reticulated supply by up to 40%, especially in a hot, dry Hawke’s Bay summer. Water tanks also reduce storm water pressure on your property and neighbourhood, and reduce the need to pump more water from aquifers and streams.
Important: Because of public health requirements, the water storage is not designed as a drinking water supply, however it is suitable for use on your garden.
Modern waste water systems are more efficient at dealing with your waste water, so are safer and healthier. Replacing old septic tanks that leak contaminants into the soil and waterways mean you help reduce the inevitable risks for human health and freshwater habitats.
Eligible ratepayers can borrow up to $20,000 at 6% from Hawke’s Bay Regional Council. This is repaid over 10 years through a voluntary targeted rate (VTR).
The rate is not a loan, and to access the funding, homeowners / ratepayers need a good history of paying regional council rates. Any existing VTR balance can be combined with a new one into a single VTR (one per property) sustainable homes combination, up to $20,000.
the Regional Council approval may be withheld if there is evidence that adding the repayments will cause hardship, in line with the guidance of the Consumer, Credit and Finance Act Amendment for responsible lending.
Print off the PDF application form in 'related documents' above, and post or bring in to our offices, or through your supplier.
The Ratepayer must complete an application form and the Direct Debit Payment Authority form provided by Council which will facilitate the payment of the Sustainable Homes Rate assessed on the Property.
This completed form shall be received by Council before it authorises the provision of the Council Funded Sustainable Homes Service.
In the event of three consecutive instalment payments being missed, the full balance of the loan is repayable immediately with any future/ alternative arrangement being entirely at the discretion of Hawke's Bay Regional Council.
If the property is sold while the VTR is in place, the balance must be settled at the point of sale.
Complete the direct debit form below and we will do the rest.
