Isha Kaur

Isha Kaur
I’m passionate about playing an active role in improving our community’s environmental sustainability programmes and spreading awareness about the importance of preserving our natural resources not just for future generations, but for my generation too. I am very excited about being on the council because it gives me the opportunity to have my voice heard and share my ideas and views on how we contribute to making our community more eco-friendly. The most rewarding part is definitely being able to make a positive contribution to the lives of others and also the satisfaction of knowing that you are a part of bringing about that positive change.

Ella Philp

Ella Philp
Hi! My Name Is Ella Philp and I’m currently 15 years old and attending Taradale High School. I feel that being on the youth environment council will really help me to further understand the world we live in and how I can make a change for the better. Spending 11 years of my life here I remember how nice it was to be able to swim and play in most rivers and lakes. Unfortunately, this is no longer as good as it used to be.  My goal this year is to make a change to this and also raise awareness about our environmental problems.

Abby Masengi Abby Masengi

Kia Ora guys, I’m Abigail Masengi, an Academic Leader at Karamu High School as well as a Hastings Youth Councillor. I am very privileged to be part of the Enviro Council this year as I am passionate to help the community and protect the environment. My interest derived from my upbringing in Indonesia, as it is a poor and developing country, there is so much rubbish everywhere- streets, rivers and the ocean. Coming to New Zealand made me realise how blessed we are to live in such a green and clean environment. I want to protect this environment before it’s too late. I hope this year will be productive for the Enviro Youth Councillors to make a change by being greener.

Tharusha Perera

Tharusha Perera
I am Tharusha Perera, a year 11student at Hastings Boys High School. I am originally from Colombo, Sri Lanka. This year I will be finishing NCEA level 1.  At school I’ve gained skills and an interest in dancing, wood tech design, metal tech design, debating, athletics, cycling, traveling, reading, video editing, photography, and gaming. I’ve chosen to join YEC, because I'd like people around me to be aware of the environment, so we can live along with nature and its wonders. Some ideas I’d like to bring to the YEC, is to eliminate/ stop using nearly all plastic items and try to use reusable items. More ideas will be showcased later on as all the YEC members work together to make our place an eco friendly habitat.
